                      /\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Ok.. I am glad to have made it into FiRM... you might not expect
programmin and crap from me.. that isn't my field... I am here to help people
Hex and customize there renegade.. and leave the programing to the rest of
the group!

Lets start off by trying to fix up the Renegade's Internal Dos
Emulator.. It is a fake DOS form within Renegade that allows only certain
commands to be done.. and even though it is fake.. there are ways to run
real DOS commands.. Get any Hex editor like XE(which should be included
in this zip file) and hex edit Renegade.ovr.....

One important note.. DO NOT change any of the ascii crap or numbers
along teh right hand side unless you know exactly what you are doing or it
wont work! Now... For the Renegade Internal Dos Emulator.. Goto %37 complete
of the file and look for the text that says it is the Emulator. Once you
have found that, it is alot easier from then on.. Anywhere below there for
about %1 is about that...Look for the Commands in the TEXT part of what you
want to change....Example would be DIR/W or HELP.... and from there all you
do is edit the text in there and change it to whatever you want.. ONLY use
UPTO the amount that the word originaly was and do not overwrite anything
else or you are screwed!

The Important commands to look for are EXT which executes real DOS
commands from within the emulator, DEL which all of you BETTER know if you
are reading this, CD to change Directories and EXIT to leave the DOS.
Those are the important ones that i think.. you can change any other thing
if you feel it is necessary.

Writing what you change it to is a good idea.. cuz once you forget
it.. you are fucked! This is quite a simple job.. Any moron could do it!
And here is a little idea.. What i just told you about the Dos Emulator
can be done with any other text inside the Renegade.OVR file to say whatever
you want it to say as long as you dont exceed the maximum of the Original
text. You can go below it but not past or Renegade won't function properly.

Another smart thing to do is Find where the menus are named and
Rename them. An example is Newinfo.mnu... which can be located at %6 of
the Renegade.ovr file... when you rename that to whatever you want.. you must
rename it in the data directory or Renegade wont be able to read it at all!
ohwell!
