How to play/record this mix
---------------------------

This document has been written in the hope it will be useful, if there are things you do not understand, please do not harass us, ask to your local audio guru instead.

i)Module player
---------------

The easier method to play this mix is to use a module player. Our favourite win32 module player is Modplug Player (http://www.modplug.com/), it is a freeware program.

Remember that you are allowed to broadcast/record/copy/distribute our music for non-commercial purposes only (read legal.nfo for more information).

ii)Convert it to a wave file
----------------------------

Using modplug player, you can convert the mix to a wave file, which you may either burn onto a CD or convert it to mp3. You will need around 1 Gb of free disk space for this operation.

- in the "Setup" dialog, Player tab check : "Enable Graphic Equalizer", "Enable Bass Expansion", uncheck "Automatic Gain Control", "Noise reduction", "Reverb" and "Pro-Logic Surround". Choose "High quality" for the resampling.
- Choose 44,100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
- set the bass expansion range to the middle and the level to one tic.
- in Equalizer choose the "Clear" preset.
- Quit the setup menu and load the track, click "Save Wav".
- Disable all limitations
- Start from "Start of song"
- Uncheck "Normalize Output"
- Wait. You will obtain a 431 Mb file.
- Open the track in your favourite editor. If your editor supports it, choose "direct mode" (otherwise it will be slower and you will need more free space).
- Normalize the track to 0 db (Peak level).
- (optional but advised) Compress the track using these settings : Threshold : - 6db, Ratio : 1.5:1, Output gain : 0db, Attack time : 150ms, Release time : 150 ms. If your editor supports it, choose "auto gain compensate", sync/link stereo, scan mode : "Peak". You might have other options unlisted here, use at your discretion. There is a preset in Sonic Foundry's WaveHammer (http://www.sonicfoundry.com/) called "Master for 16bit" that reflects exactly the desired settings.
- Normalize the track to 0 db again.

iii)Record the wave to a CD
---------------------------

The wave file can be easily recorded to a CD. You can either burn it as a single track or place indexes along the mix, it is up to you. You will have to make sure the wave format is 44100-16-stereo prior to the recording operation.

iv)Making a mp3 out of the wave
-------------------------------

The best freeware mp3 encoder is certainly LAME (http://www.mp3dev.org/), it is available on many platforms. It even outperforms most of commercial encoders (the best commercial encoder being the Fraunhofer one). Since it is a command line tool, a GUI called RazorLame has been made (http://www.dors.de/razorlame/).

Use these settings :

- Bitrate : 160 kpbs Joint-Stereo (for higher bitrates use Stereo)
- Optimization : quality
- Disable CRC-checksum
- Disable Variable bitrate
- Disable all audio processing

Enjoy the music !
