Subject: Beginnine programming

I would suggest a good starting place would be a program using ultramid.
 It comes with an example program - a WAV player.  This is pretty much a
good engine for playing all kinds of sound effect for whatever.  The
first thing to do is modify it to play multiple WAVs at a time (this I
have done).  Another modification is adding MIDI files (this is almost
built into ultramid).
