Wecome to the third issue of Spectrum. Readers of issue two will have noticed yet another change in the display program; I will discuss this later on. First a few words about what is happening this issue.

If you nadn't noticed, this issue is being sponsored by Clares. We would like to take this opportunity to thank their general manager, Gareth, and the rest of the staff for supporting us.

The fact that Clares are sponsoring this issue and that numerous other software producers have donated software for us to review shows just how strong the Acorn community is. After all, would you get major PC companies such as Microsoft donating software to a freeware disc mag? I don't think so! Because of the genorosity of the software companys we can offer a _MASSIVE software draw_"Regulars.700Comp" which inludes prizes like Pro Artisan 24, Schema 2, MacFS, Sleuth 2 and Wavelength to name a few.

I would now like to take some time to discus what the idea behind Spectrum and the new Hyper-Mag format is.

Spectrum's aim is to document a period of time in the Acorn world. This will include News summaries and reviews. We will also take a look at topics outside the Acorn world such as music. On top of that we aim to give series of articles which give tutorials on well known programs, programm- ing, writing music and other computer related topics. We hope that the magazine will be used as reference, as well as making an interesting read.

What is the Hyper-Mag thing all about then? Well basically the display program which we used for the second issue of Spectrum had its flaws. When we had finished writing it we still had a long 'wish' list of features that we wanted to implement, but adding them would have been a nightmare due to the complexity of the code already in place. So, always up to a good challenge, we decided to re-write the display program, and here you have it. All of the features we wanted to add to "Spectrum2" are here like the Hyper-Linking and WYSIWYG printing. These and the unique way the magazine is displayed is a first in the PD magazine area (correct me if I am wrong). Another thing we hope to achieve is to eventually become tri-monthly. If you would like to contribute in any way then feel free to write to me with any ideas or suggestions.

One thing which last issue lacked was a picture of those teen idols, Take That, so here for all you screaming Take That fans is a picture of TT:

Of course any proper magazine would also have a picture of East 17, so here you go:

This does pose the question, "who is harder, Take That or East 17?". We at Sounds Riscy think that East 17 are harder, but what do you think? Answers on the back of a tenner to Kirky. Maybe I should should shut up now, so until next issue happy reading.
