Music Compilation Disk #1 by Soundwave [ASTEK]

INTRODUCTION
------------

I'm a musician by hobbyist, not by profession. Which means that the bulk
of my time goes into actually making the piece, not into doing stuff
like promoting it and distributing it. I make a piece from time to time
(average about 1 per month or so) and the bulk of that is for purposes
ranging from other people's music disks to demos to music contests, it
seems. The remainder of the music well, seems to get lost.

It seems that a large amount of my work is not known by the majority of
the population, except for a couple of pieces (Time Drift and Black Hole
in particular) released independantly and a few others entered in Music
Contests (of which only The Palace Festival was very good. (: ) So, I'm
deciding to release this music compilation and bring it to the general
public. It contains 8 of my releases, some of them quite well known,
some of them not so known. Some good, some not-so-good. All designed to
familiarize someone who doesn't know the bulk of my compositional work,
which probably is most people. (:

It also changes my address. The bulk of the work was done while I was at
Georgia Tech (at gt7039a@prism.gatech.edu). That is no longer the case
for many reasons (I consider WREK currently the only thing right with
that school, sorry), so my contact address has changed... it's now:

Internet: cgould@gate.net
Snail Mail: Chad Gould
            PO Box 7343
            Seminole FL 34642

The music is named after an Alien clone film. I've gotten into
horror and sci-fi films over the past few years, and many of these
pieces are very thematic, so I decided to name it something which
reflected movies and at the same time sounded cool. It also is close to
the word Seminole, but that's just a coincidence.

Anyways, here's the releases, in alphabetical order:

* = Unreleased
--------------------------------------------------------------------
* BAYSHORE (bayshore.mtm)
Named after a waterfront boulevard in St. Petersburg, this little piano
ditty is quite a nice piece. It hasn't seen the light of day, since this
release was really composed for the ASTEK music disk. It's now a premier
release on this disk- and won't be premiered anywhere else...

BLACK HOLE (blackhol.mtm)
Probably my most famous and well-liked piece, this monster ambient
composition features some pretty nice textures, rhythms, and electric
guitar. My personal favorite as well.

INTO A WORLD UNKNOWN (intowu.mtm)
This piece was composed after the Music Contest #1, but it never really
went anywhere. It got converted into a FAR for a piece demonstrating
Cramer's FAR technology, but it was composed first as an MTM... so there
really was no point. This piece, which is very low-key orchestral/piano,
gets released in this disk for the first time.

THE OCEAN FRONTIER (ocean.mtm)
Be careful when running this one! It's 28 channels cram-full of new age
style music. It got limited release through ASTEK, then limited release
over #trax. Met with fairly positive reception throughout, but it hasn't
been released to the general public, it seems- many on #trax didn't know
about this piece until last month! It now is included in this music
disk.

THE PALACE FESTIVAL (palalt.far)
The Palace Festival, a very good entry for Composer's Contest #1, was
something that not everybody could play back because of the 16 bit
sample! This orchestral Baroqueish-sounding ditty is now in this music
disk with an 8 bit sample. Hopefully, now people can hear this piece
without a bunch of fuzz.

STAR BRIGADE (sbrigade.s3m)
This was released for the REM music disk. It's a Vangelis-like orchestra
ditty. It hopefully gets a bit more press over here.

* STRATOSPHERES (stratosp.s3m)
Another unreleased piece- very much an Enigma beat, very small,
intro-style music. This piece was submitted to the ASTEK music disk but
was eventually excluded from the disk which eventually failed to show up
anyways... so, the piece now goes into this disk.

* TIME DRIFT 2 (timedri2.mtm)
Many people have heard Time Drift, an Enigma-like piece that got
distributed around April of last year, along with Black Hole. Time Drift
2 (and, actually, Time Drift itself) was composed for a demo group
called Revolutions. Time Drift was originally submitted; two days later,
I completed Time Drift 2, which has the beginning of Time Drift along
with an added techno and credits part. Time Drift 2 is IMHO FAR superior
to Time Drift. However, it has not seen any release- it so far has been
bouncing around music disks as usual. (: So far, it has not been
released. So, here it is. Enjoy this one.

------------------------------------------------------------

This music disk unfortunately contains no graphics, as I'm a musician,
not an artist. ): I hope it stands up on its own. I did do the
FILE_ID.DIZ, however...

Thanks for listening!
