-RaT Sampler Pack 1995-

Welcome! Well, it has been a year, hasn't it? The year of 1995 has
seen many, many changes for the art team, both in membership and in focus.
Overall, it's been a good year for us. We've gained many new members and
seen a handful disappear. But that's the way of things, isn't it? We move
on, hopefully better than before, and we enjoy our art for what it is: an
expression of ourselves. A means of communication. We may not be the
greatest at what we do, but we do it anyway--and we have fun doing it. :)

With that in mind, RaT proudly presents its first ever internet
music sampler pack. Herein you will find music, both released and
unreleased, by various of our artists, done over the past year. And for the
hell of it, we're also throwing in a few *older* songs, because we felt
like it. :) The sampler pack includes:

Song: Esatu (ESATU.MTM)
Artist: Xiola Blue
Style: Industrial/Techno/Dance
Recommended Player: Cubic 1.6
Comments: Xiola is excellent at what he does--hard, fast-paced dance music.
This song was one of his first written after he applied to RaT,
and in the opinions of some it's one of his best.

Song: Obitual Affinity (OBITUAL.MOD)
Artist: Dude
Style: Eerie Synthy Dudie Style :)
Recommended Player: Cubic 1.6 or DMP 4.0
Comments: Included as a bit of a historical perspective, this is one of
Dude's earlier songs, written when he still only had Modedit 2.0.
His early style is what is often called 'Dude Video Game Music',
due to the epic/final-fantasyish feel of a lot of them.

Song: Obsidian Dream (OBSIDIAN.S3M)
Artist: Dude
Style: Medivial Dudie Style
Recommended Player: ST 3.2 or DMP 4.0
Comments: Yes, there's a very good reason for wanting to play this in ST3.
For one, it's not made for stereo but doesn't sound much different
if you have it, so you're not missing anything. You are, however,
missing a lot if you play it in Cubic or anything else that
doesn't properly display the sample names. :) Trust me, use ST3.
Despite the devilishly catchy melody, you'll enjoy the song even
          more. :)

Song: Sorrow's Redemption (SORROWSR.S3M)
Artist: Catspaw
Style: Orchestratic Synthy Rock
Recommended Player: Cubic 1.6 (Not DMP!)
Comments: This song was originally a 4-channel MOD by Dude and Dream Scythe,
called Sorrow's Return. In that, it was a very epic-style synthy
piece in classic Dude fashion, with only three or four samples.
Since many RaT songs are parts of an ongoing series, Catspaw took
the basic chorus of the song and a few of the melodies, and
          *completely* reworked it.

Song: Canon In D (TACOBELL.MOD)
Artist: Aquatic Kumquat
Style: Classical Piano (cover song)
Recommended Player: Cubic 1.6
Comments: Aqua is a classical pianist by education, and as such mostly tracks
MOD cover songs of popular classical pieces for the enjoyment of
people who have a computer and may not have been introduced to
said music. This one in particular displays her warped sense of
humor and is one of her earlier tracks.

Song: Turbo Truffle 2 : Sleepdep (TRUFFLE2.S3M)
Artist: Catspaw
Style: Piano Rock
Recommended Player: Cubic 1.6 or ST 3.2
Comments: This was written to be obnoxious, and it succeded. :) The Turbo
Truffle series of songs are all loud rock music written when
Catspaw is on a caffiene high and no sleep at obscene hours of the
morning. This one is unique for the fact that instead of a bass
guitar, a low octave piano was used.

Enjoy the music! :)
