Welcome to SCOOP Information Package #17 June 1995. This is an update of the
package #16 May 1995, there are a lot of new stuff, and changes, so please
take your time to read this file thoroughly.
The main purpose of this file is to tell you all about SCOOP and what we are
doing, both in the DEMOSCENE and the commercial part.
We would like to take this time to tell you that you can always contact us
at the addresses and EMAILs at the bottom of this file, for questions on what,
when and how.

 About SCOOP
ͼ
As most of you allready know, SCOOP was founded around 1985/86 by Charles
Deenen. The SCOOP existing today, is not the same SCOOP Charles founded.
The SCOOP you know now, was refounded in 1992 by Adept and Predator. After
some years fiddeling around with the C64 and the AMIGA, we bought ourselves
a couple of PC's and started assembly programming at once.At the 'Gathering 93'
we came up with a demo for the demo-competition, called 'X&Renovated'. This
demo was due to be released at that party. But the music player failed its
ultimate test. And as you allready know, it wasn't released.
Gathering'94, was a failure for us, from the beginning to the very end.
We came to the party with a demo that only needed linking and fixing of the
music player. Well.. Was that all? I guess not. We found the party to be
VERY boring, so we didnt excactly spend alot of time at the party.
Until we suddenly found out that the deadline was on Friday, instead of
Saturday.. (Ehm..) That gave us about 24 hours to do the linking. Well, well.
We sure didn't make the deadline. This year as last year, the demo-compo was
quite a mess for us. But we released 'Renovative' 2 months later(A BIT LATE..).

Today SCOOP consists of 5 musicians, 1 designer, 6 graphicians, 9 coders,
2 comercial developers and 1 BBS-man. Some of these guys comes from different
platforms and different arenas. To mention but a few groups: SHAPE,
LEGION DESIGN, RIFFS, Beyond Force, The Suppliers, Panoramic Design, CRYPT
and so on... Almost all the members has been fiddeling around on both C64 and
AMIGA, and some of us on the Atari ST(e) too.
Today the programmers are specialized in Visual Basic, Turbo Pascal, C/C++ and
assembly on the IBM/PC, C64 and AMIGA.
SCOOP consists actually of two separate teams, one team that is dedicated
to demos(SCOOP Design), and another that is specialized in making comercial
software(SCOOP Development). Even though the two teams are almost the same, we
have people who only do either thing.
If you want individual information about each member, look at chapter 11.

 SCOOP BBS
ͼ
Another very important subject for SCOOP, is our BBS, run by one man
'The Mercenary'. The BBS started up in late 92, and was called at that time
'Maggis BBS'. At that time, the BBS was a local chatter BBS, and has grown
to be an attractive demo-based BBS today. Because of good support from the
users, the BBS has had the possibility to grow into a well liked BBS.
By arranging a time-limit payment system, people started to pay us to
make the BBS even greater. Thanx to this, we have now the money it takes to
open a second BBS, related to programming and demos only. The two systems
will be linked together twice a day, to exchange information.

 What has happened lately
ͼ
The Gathering 1995 is well over, we have been working since that time on
several things. A demo, a musicdisk and an intro is to be out there right
about now. Besides that, we have been working on a couple of things for
the ASM'95 party. Maybe we will even make a demo, who knows. When it comes
to commercial stuff, we are now making and planning a couple of games, one
of them is soon to be released. We've also been collaborating with
VIBRANTS lately, we will release a commercial demo for them soon.

			       Gathering 1995

Held in Stavanger 11th of April - 15th of April

			  Preliminary Party Report

This party report contains more than just the ordinary report.
It also contains what happened inside crew and what was the reasons
for all that happened at Gathering 1995. This text is not ment to
discredit people, it's the thruth.

Day 1:	Tuesday 11th of April.
The party officially opened at 0:00. Unfortunatly no power was
available. The power was a bit delayed, and was 99% up and running
around 3:00. In the middle of the power-failure we had a non-planned
opening-ceremony. This was extremely bad, even though some of the
guys in the hall thought it was very cool. Anyway, later that day
there was announced that the vote-disks was going to cost money...
Which was as far from the truth as it could get. One member of
SHI found very convinient to get money this way, and announced it.
We thought we had problems with the funding of the arrangement.

Day 2:	Wednesday 12th of April.
The party was up and running, except for some power-failures, caused
by non-ground systems in the hall. Deadlines was to be, delayed....
We had been delayed a whole lot, because of the power-failures.
When we where going to show them, we had problems again. We didn't
have all the equipment to show them. But finnally we could start the
AMIGA versions of the Animation-competition. The PC versions and
the Wild demo-compo was now delayed by 12 hours.

Day 3:	Thursday 13th of April.
Starting of the day with the PC animation competition and the
Wild-Demo competition. Which actually ran pretty smooth, considering
that we still didn't have all the equipment. Deadlines for the
graphics and the two music competitions was due. Delayed by some
hours, of-course. The presentation was to be at 03:00, but because
I was asleep, it didn't start.

Day 4: Friday 14th of April.
06:00 last turn in to the competitions. I came to the party place
again at 09:00, and started on the jury selection of the multichannel
competition. When I had my jury, we started the 4 channel music compo.
And from there we went into a room and started on the Multichannel
selection. The graphics competition was started around 15:00, and
was finished some time later. The multichannel started late that
night. In the middle, on song number 11. We had a break, because
of a hacker in the hall, which was wanted by the InterPol. This
delayed us about an hour. We ran through all the multichannel with
a million problems, conserning players to use. After that, we were
delayed an hour again, before the 4Kb PC intros could be shown.
They ran pretty smoothly. Then a delay again, and the 64Kb PC intros
were to be ran. They ran pretty smoothly to. Then the shit started.
The PC demos were about to start. We started all up, with a lot of
problems. It seemed that the RGB encoder we used, the driver for
this caused 4 of the demos to be untimed and one of them lost the
last part. So I had complaints from all over, that it wasn't
correct. That's the reason three of the demos had to be tried again.
It basicly sucked. After all this crap, the AMIGA was in the spot.
	Which suprisingly went pretty smooth.

Day 5: Saturday 15th of April.
The party had reached it's last day. The competitions finished up
at around 09:00. Hmm... 1 hour before prize-giving?? A little bit
late maybe.... YES. And even better, the vote-register program
wasn't finished on the AMIGA. So... The coder from Spaceballs had
to finish it up. 6 hours later it was more or less finished, without
a PC version. GoLLuM was called to do this, all SCOOP people was now
home sleeping(with a good reason...). The voting was finished later
that evening. I got the results the day after, and they were totally
wrong. All the bad productions had won, and the good ones, didn't show
up on the list. This was very strange, so at 21:00 later that night
(some hours ago...) I finished up a new vote program, and registered
all the votes. I came to these results :

 Gathering'95 Addition
ͼ
The Gathering 1995 demo party is over, actually it has almost been 2 months
since it was finished. Anyhow, we would like to take the time to explain some
of the happenings of the party. It seems like what people wants to believe,
is that SCOOP was the only actor on stage on the party, and that we made the
party CRAP. I would say that it is totally wrong, at the same time I would
like to apologize if there were anything that we did wrong.
The clue is, that the CREW this year was a total mixup of people that didn't
know each other. SCOOP & SpaceBalls has been very close, we know each other
very good, the third party SHI, showed to be a very bad ball-player.
Not to paint anyone black or anything, but they wanted to have control of
everything, this made our job even worse. When it came to screwups, it's
really stupid to actually blame specific persons, but on the other hand
that's what the rest of the world have been doing. I hope that everyone can
understand that SCOOP wasn't the only player on the field, and that we
tried to make the party the best we could, without anyone helping us.

A little explanation about the chart. "Party" means which party it was
released on, if any. "Place" means, that if it was in the competition, which
place it got. The rest you probably figure out yourself.

How to become a distribution site
ͼ
We are looking for distribution sites all over the world, to spread and handle
all of our productions. To become one of these sites, you have to follow the
following simple things :

* You must have all demos/intros released from SCOOP at any given time.
* You should always have information on your BBS about SCOOP, and what
is going on inside the SCOOP CAMP.
* Your BBS will be a 100% information forum for people that wants to know
things about SCOOP, this means that you have to install a conference of
some kind, where people can talk and discuss SCOOP related things.
* Your BBS should be operated on a PC Compatible computer with at least
  14400 BPS modem, and should a 24h, 365 days a year service.

You will in return get alot of free comercials for your BBS in every SCOOP
release. You will have the chance to get all productions before everyone
else does.

Following is an application form for applying for a Distribution Site.

First of all, I would like to take the time to thank all the people who have
been standing by us. Thanx for your support, without the support we probably
wouldn't exist. Another big thank you goes to Strand Data, for sponsoring our
BBS and our group with hardware, big round of applause to you Rudi.

The purpose of this text-file, is to let the world know about SCOOP, and
what we are doing at every given time.

All the text in this file was written by Adept. And might contain some
information that might be wrong. The information I am talking about, is
mostly the information about each member, since that's the hardest part
to keep track on.

Thanx for taking your time to read this...

Adept / SCOOP
